Earthworks: Landscape Paintings by Allison Watson October 10 – November 29, 2008

“I have combined my two life long loves, one of painting and one of the natural world. My objective as a painter is to capture the essence of the Florida wilderness and to capture its mystery and beauty. As a life long environmentalist, I hope to bring an awareness of the fragility of these wonderful places to the viewer. I work from my own photography taken from my kayak or hikes. Since I began as a studio artist in my early twenty’s the predominate theme of my paintings have always been nature in some form.”

Opening Night: Friday, October 10, 2008.

There will be a private Renaissance Society Reception from 5:30 – 6:30 pm.

Our community is invited to attend from 6:30 – 8 pm.

Put your finger on the pulse of your city. Emergence is a monthly event in The Gallery at Fogle that celebrates Jacksonville’s various forms of creative expression, focusing on the contemporary and the cutting edge. This event features exciting new art by artists not commonly shown around town. We also show edgy films with a local relevance, contemporary design by local designers in various mediums and music that doesn’t quite fit in the category of traditional ensembles. This is a night of stimulating conversation and the best of what’s next in Jacksonville. Proceeds from the cash bar benefit a local charity.

Emergence in November - Eric Gillyard

  • Date(s): 11/20/2008 - 11/20/2008
  • Times: 5:00pm - 8:00pm
  • Location: St. Nicholas - The Gallery at Fogle
  • Admission: Free

“I make art because otherwise I would need a psychiatrist,” Eric Gillyard says, but he may still be in the market for a shrink.

Have you ever gone thrift shopping with a friend and spent some time looking through the artwork there? If you went with a snarky friend that imagined strange and disturbing things happening just beyond the frame, then you may have an idea of what Eric Gillyard’s most recent work is like. Eric’s work is like a cupie doll from 1963 that has been serially defaced by several generations of children and left in an attic. The doll’s smile may still be there, but there is a dark cynicism behind it. We will also be featuring work by Christie Holechek.

Doorpost Film Project will be presenting two films by Eric Gillyard and Ian Chase. This will be the first time the Weird Island films will be projected on screen. Proceeds from the cash bar benefit St. Johns Riverkeeper. The bar is presented by The Wine Bar on the Southbank and Bold City Brewery.
